Moonbow and Rockfall

from The Permanent Way by Ivodne Galatea

/

about

This track features a duet of Pianets in Kushaura and Kitsinhira roles playing music from the great mbira cycle - step 4 (Bangidza) and a reprise of step 2, revisiting Chakwi. I have played both of these before on Guitaret, but wanted to revisit with the range and polyphony the Pianet offered.

- Bangidza means “to point out”, which can be in both a literal or metaphorical sense. The attention being drawn is that of the spirits, as it is an ancient sacred song frequently used in ceremonies.
- Chakwi is the name given to temporary lakes that form in marshes or depressions, and the piece represents the motion of walking in such a place.

about

Ivodne Galatea Nedlands, Australia

Principally playing original compositions of an ambient nature on the Hohner Guitaret as well as other thumb pianos/finger harps/lamellophones.
Interested in orchestration using field recordings, per the great John Cage's suggestions (1937).
The pieces are all pataphysical book reviews. They consist of musical essays on books of the same title that haven't been written, but should have.
