about

A blind loop extemporisation on the Tonkori-Kalimba, through a Zoom CDR as graphic and preamp, through a Strymon Timeline controlled by an Oz pedal, then to a mixer to combine with field recordings played by a Roland SP404sx, thence to a Sony PCM-M10.

The field recordings in the background are of a beach in Lauttasaari, Helsinki with waves and swans shttp://www.freesound.org/people/MRQZ/sounds/71123 by MRQZ and of reeds and birds at Tipperne Peninsula on the westcoast of Denmark www.freesound.org/people/inchadney/sounds/194292/ by Inchadney. A Tonkori-Kalimba is a kalimba in the tuning and layout of the Ainu fretless zither, the Tonkori, It has ten keys, 5 in the speaker register and 5 in the harmonic register.

It is a hybrid instrument developed as part of a series of investigations into the nature of musical instrument affordance
