about

The first medley of the album features three classic mbira pieces: Kuzanga, Shumba, Hondo.

“Kuzanga” translates as “to thread beads” It refers to an old woman who stays in the forest alone, making beads for her ancestors, in their honour.
“Shumba” translates as “lion”, it refers to the lion, as the only rival in authority to the hunters in the forest.
“Hondo” translates as “war”, but can be seen as referring to a contest between two sides.
