A Long Way Home

from A Question of Balance by Ivodne Galatea

about

This is the first medley of African tunes for the album. They are arrangements of the transcriptions that Andrew Tracey made of traditional players of the Karimba: they are (in order) : Chikunda, Shumba Panzira, Kana Ndoda, Meria and Wa Kalulu. The details (including translations) are all in the booklet are are far too detailed for a track note.

The arrangement is for the Guitaret and Pianet (where not possible to play on the Guitaret).

The sounds are largely Omsk again, with some extra recordings from when an Omsk contributor went to China. My thanks to Freesound users zabuhailo, dmitry-patrakov, and zulut for their generosity.

about

Ivodne Galatea Nedlands, Australia

Principally playing original compositions of an ambient nature on the Hohner Guitaret as well as other thumb pianos/finger harps/lamellophones.
Interested in orchestration using field recordings, per the great John Cage's suggestions (1937).
The pieces are all pataphysical book reviews. They consist of musical essays on books of the same title that haven't been written, but should have.
