about

This is a suite in cheap imitation of Rodrigo, drawn from the same pieces of Gaspar Sanz that he chose, with different pieces were that was unplayable. The solo tab is in the download.

The pieces are:
01 - Villano y Gallardo
02 - Marizápalos y La Cavalleria de Napoles con dos Clarines
03 - Danza de las Hachas
04 - Canarios

I first heard the second movement played by Jan Akkerman on the Aranjuez album arranged by Claus Ogerman. I was inspired to do the arrangement by that recording, and tried to follow the feel. The rest of the performance here is inspired by the RCA recording in the 1970s by Regino Sainz de la Maza, which I think I bought the next day after hearing Akkerman/Ogerman playing it.

Sanz's music is both primordial and modern - it is of its time yet is as vigorous and bright as the day it was captured in ink. There are modern arrangements for guitar or ukulele that would well replay effort to the curious, and as the music was written for the vihuela is very undemanding.

about

Ivodne Galatea Nedlands, Australia

Principally playing original compositions of an ambient nature on the Hohner Guitaret as well as other thumb pianos/finger harps/lamellophones.
Interested in orchestration using field recordings, per the great John Cage's suggestions (1937).
The pieces are all pataphysical book reviews. They consist of musical essays on books of the same title that haven't been written, but should have.
